The easiest way to get a correct answer with this is to remove yourself from emotion and the snap judgement that "omg guns in schools is bad!!"
For most people, they see guns as dangerous and as such want them kept away from schools, which sounds all nice and sweet (and it is) but it ignores a few simple pieces of logic.
First, lets ask ourselves, what do current "no gun zone" laws accomplish? In a word...nothing. As seen time after time after time, someone who wants to kill someone will have no problem violating these laws. So in a nutshell, these laws are useless and therefor have no gain for the general public. As I understand it, the proposed law would allow only those already licensed to carry concealed weapons to carry on college campuses, so these people are already carrying other places, why not on their college campus?
Now someone mentioned that a law abiding citzen with a gun might snap, which is true enough, BUT if you look at the percentages of concealed weapon permit holders who have had their permit taken away because of a firearm related crime, it's less than 1%, so that is not really a valid reason for keeping the guns off the campuses.
History has shown that allowing citzens to have concealed weapons has done more to lower crime than to raise it, so why not extend that a little further?

If a person possesses a concealed weapons permit why not. People who posses such permits are generally safe and could even afford some protection in the event that something similar to the VA Tech shootings should occur. Remember that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. The states however can set the parameters for where such weapons can be possessed. There are several court rulings that might be of interest to you. Miller V US and US V Emerson are two such examples.

It's a horrible idea!
The whole idea from the right wing was that the "good guys" would have guns too.
I guess the assumption is that right wingers never snap.
To those that suggested everyone one should have guns on campus to stop someone like the VA Tech killer...You're assuming that no one could have stopped him any other way. If someone's going to be so brave to pull a gun on a shooter like that, why not just rush him? He doesn't have eyes in the back of his head...
But somehow, the only solution would be to have guns on campus. I wonder if the right wing feels the same way about these types of gun carrying laws on all college campuses...
...including those that aren't primarily WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant).
Would a right winger feel comfortable walking on a campus that's primarily populated by another ethnicity with licensed firearms allowed on campus?

*sigh* Let me bestow knowledge of infallible logical roots, originating deep from within the Most common of all senses to you. I'm serious. Read and Consider what i say, Do not simply reject it because it Does not Align with your beliefs.
First. lets observe. There are No guns on college campuses currently. Guns are NOT allowed on college campuses currently.
Secondly. Lets both realize that there have been recent shootings , and more than one instance of a shooting on a college campus.
Logic would suggest, with those two Facts considered that the current state of "No Guns" on the college campus does not work.
Now. Lets pull that further, One could say, No Guns on the college campus is Counter-Productive to the attempts to deter school shootings.-- You may wonder How i could possible claim that, Well I'll bestow more earth shattering Logic upon your mind that could even make Spock jealous.
Since shootings have happened, Lets analyze What went wrong, and Why it was so dangerous. An Individual is mentally unstable, therefore he decided to Kill. He used a Gun as his instrument. Now, The unstable Individual Simply walks into the school with his Gun concealed and Begins Unleashing death.--The Individual has almost NOTHING to fear because he can not be stopped, Why? one might ask. Because of people with Ideas like Yours. If guns are taken away from law abiding citizens they are at the mercy of people who choose Not to abide by those laws.
This logic is infallable and has stood the test of time. As you can see with the school shootings that HAVE occured. Since This is PROVEN. Logic would dictate putting Weapons, Even if it were merely a sword would Make the entire school safer from any shootings that could possibly Occur. Now you may again ask why.
As any sentient being should know, Every person in the college will not be turned into an Evil gun slinging maniac because they have a gun. The gun is merely an instrument to be used by an individual. If one becomes mentally unstable, And begins to attack with his Gun that he has. I assure you, his spree would be cut short, VERY quickly, if EVERYBODY surrounding him had a gun. One would have to be Absolutely insane, to pull out a gun in an attempt to attack someone, if they knew EVERYBODY was armed.
Criminals have admitted to running away, bailing out on crimes, or not Committing crimes because they believed their victim to be armed.
It is impossible to argue against my Points with the aid of logic, because it is not logical to disarm innocent people, and believe that it also disarms the law breaking criminal. They are criminals and they don't follow laws, Therefore making a law can not stop a criminal.

The University of Utah allows it. I'll bet you the Seung-Hui Cho's of the world think twice before planning an attack there.
About the remarks of chameleon regarding Korea. My wife tells me that is BS and she's Korean. The only thing that makes Korea appear very safe is the victim's reluctance to report a crime because of family shame. There is a growing underworld of foreigners who are armed and becoming increasingly dangerous.

Crimes and using or carrying fire-arms in place of education, isn't a good and praising work.Because, crimes and taking revenge or making enemies aren't the solution of every problem. The main purpose of going college and attending your classes is the motto to become a honorable and gentle citizen after passing out. So,forget about terrorism, guns and other henious crimes. And concentrate only on your studies.Best of Luck.

I heard that some legislators in California want to make it legal for even HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS to carry guns.
I dont think there should be guns on ANY campus.
Even for pro-gun places like Texas!
It endangers people.
What if some insane person just had some break down during the day, went to their car, got their gun, and went Columbine on the place...
Campuses are for learning, I dont see why there would be a need for a gun...
Though, I guess if you could get a license and maybe a personal mental soundness check it'd be fine...
