Currently the most effective way to remove spyware and adware infections is to use one of the many spyware protective software programs.
A good anti spyware/adware program will do 3 things that will clean your computer and then keep it clean. It will scan your computer to discover where the problem is, then it will run through and completely remove spyware from your system and then it will run on your computer in the background, defending you against future spyware attacks.

Look for and download Ad-Aware, XoftSpy, and Spybot-Search & Destroy. They're all freeware, and they all work. I use all of them because each will find and remove things the others miss.
