Because of the stadium costs and the absence of public money, N.F.L. Commissioner Paul Tagliabue has called the business community's involvement a ''surrogate'' for the use of tax dollars.

Steve Tisch, the Giants' chairman and executive vice president and a member of the Los Angeles working group, said, ''We think it is important to have a team in Los Angeles, but the conditions have to be right, the economics have to work, and the business community has to be strongly involved.''

If a site is chosen, the league will have two years before it is obligated to designate a team that will play there. That would provide time to decide whether to expand or to allow an existing team to move.

Another issue would be that the new team would probably want a new stadium and I don't know where they would put it unless they tore down either the Rose Bowl or Coliseum and I don't see any way of that happening.

When the NFL decides to have 33 teams in the National Football League.

I hope NEVER.

Right now, we are exempt from those stupid NFL blackout rules. And the Coliseum basically belongs to USC. The plans to remodel the Coliseum would reduce the seating by like 30,000! That would be a travesty!

I'll just be happy being a fan of my USC players who've made it to the NFL.

It's not a Pro Football town. Besides they don't want to derive attention from the two pristine Universities USC and UCLA.

Why do they need another team? The Rams and Raiders both failed there. Why does LA deserve another chance when there are other cities that are desperate for their 1st franchise?
