The Democrats wanted a perfect war. They're still there trying to sabotage any progress in Iraq.

I suppose you can believe whatever you want to believe as there's no way to predict the future. It's possible that the major part of the killing has gone into remission and now its equilibrium has reach a point of chronic death and destruction. If you say, "Well, only 900 people have been killed this month in stead of 1800, that's an improvment." No kiddin', but that's still 900 people...not to mention the wounded and those that have fled the country. Of course if all you want to do is to beat up the 'liberal' strawman then all you need is a week without a beheading and you can make some kind of bogus point. Unfortunately for the 'surganestas' the stats prove nothing without context. Entire neighborhoods have seen an ethnic cleansing that would put the Nazis to shame. There are fewer killings because there are fewer people to kill. There a slightly fewer sucessful attacks on Americans because US forces are a lot more experianced now and fewer Americans are killed simply because battlefield medicine has improved....instead of being dead the victim is simply blinded, deafened, brain damaged of shorn of limbs. There is no effective government in Iraq as government officials are killed at will. Even Fort Green Zone is shelled almost daily. Some areas are called 'safe' now because either there never were a lot of people in those areas to begin with or they're not contested areas at the moment. If you want to believe all is well, go for it......but all is not well! It's just a different kind of bad!

Hang on the best is yet to come. Many of the countries that are afraid of the Al Qaida and Taliban are now stepping up to the plate to assist. Most importantly so is the Islam press and at the possibility of repercussion from UBL. Although Iran may be not be Islam the leadership has tried very hard to secure their blessings as brothers. The link with Russia will end that relationship by virtue of the war between Russia and Afghanistan. After the elections in Russia the will abandon Iran who will, just as the North Koreans are doing now, come crawling back.

The surge may well work - for as long as the tropps are there.
One reason there are less ethnic cleansing attacks, is that large parts of Iraq have completed cleansing and there are 4 million displaced refugee in a country of 28 million people. What do you think will happen if/when these people try to go home again ?
But the problem comes when the US troops leave......and we see if there's a bloodbath then.

Stalled political process, 4 million refugees, 2 million internal, 2 million external. No more mixed neighborhoods, people forced to flee their homes and set up in shia/sunni enclaves, empowered militias that work against the government, creation of Iran as a regional superpower, Turkey getting ready to bomb the sh!t out of the north......and so on.....
I wonder what failure looks like....

They have already said if the surge works they would do better to keep quiet. I guess the liberals are doing better? Sounds like an oxymoron but it is what it is.

I don't really understand exactly what your saying but: "The United States was a lawless place during our founding as a nation, why would it be different elsewhere?" -Iraq was a country with its own laws and customs when the US invaded, it is VERY unreasonable for them to assert their will and not follow laws that are/were set before.

The problem is that we can't keep holding the pig down forever. At some point we have to let go and watch the pig go wild again.
