What a joke! Soldiers must, but apparently State Dept employees feel they shouldn't have to! You're right George, they must go or be sacked!!

Hannah, why do you ask such a foolish question? State Dept employees have said being sent to Iraq is tantamount to a death sentence (isn't that fear?).
As for my having no right to comment unless I work for the state dept, well I give up..........

Mel You are wrong. It was Bush himself who ordered that those refusing would lose their jobs.

It just shows how the Bush administration is getting desperate. State Department workers no doubt have a better understanding of what is happening in Iraq than the rest of the country and if they are refusing to go, it must be going really bad in that country

What does being afraid of Iraq and Bush forcing State Dept. employee's to serve there have to do with each other. And what does this have to do with you unless you are in the State Dept.?

State department workers sign an oath to serve and it does not matter where they are asked to serve if they do not wish to serve in Iraq then they have the option to resign its that simple soldiers sign up for the military they are not drafted they know very well that if there is a war or conflict that they will most likely be called up and asked to go wherever there commander in chief needs them to go. They also have a choice not to join the united states military. We also have a choice to fight those that wish to destroy our freedoms and way of life as we know it and support our president and military in any way we can or just let those that wish to kill us have every opportunity to do so by voting in those that wish to give in to the enemy and by giving the enemy every advantage he needs to destroy us. We all have choices I choose to support our president our constitution and our troops.

Hey, they are State Department employees. They have the option of tendering a resignation, just the same as an employee in any other line of work.

It depends on the contractual agreement they have with their employer. If they agreed to work in whichever country the State needed them to work then yes, they have to work in Iraq or forfeit their job. It's not fulfilling the job they promised. Should or shouldn't pretty much becomes a moot point.

They signed a contract that states, just as the military, they are available for deployment anywhere at anytime. Resume classes being at noon tomorrow.
