Keeps coming on when I have internet explorer open or a few programs on. And it stays on. Even when starting up it goes on and then goes off when computer boots to desktop screen. Then I open a program or 2 and it comes on.
I opened the case, cleaned the whole inside out, took the fan out, cleaned that. I noticied one of the clamps that keeps the fan on in place was broken off. But its still pretty snug on the processor. It has this thermal glue also, could it be that it needs more thermal glue? Could I possibly need a new fan?
516 MB 2.70 intel celeron processor.

Buy a new fan/heatsink. Make sure you remove the old heatsink grease with isopropyl alcohol and use new paste. No, more paste wont help. You need to have the base of the heatsink totally flat against the cpu heatshield so the heat from the cpu can be transferred to the heatsink and with one corner support broken it isn't. Thats why the fans running fast all the time.

My fans never go off. They speed up when thing get hot and slow down as they cool off. Check all of the fans. Do the fans spin freely? Does the blade part wobble on its spindle? As the fans get older, the bearings wear out and they start to wobble. When they wobble, they make a lot more noise. Eventually, the bearing just seizes up.
That's probably thermal grease between a chip and its heatsink. If it were glue, you wouldn't be able to remove the heatsink without prying it off. You should clean off the old grease from both surfaces with rubbing alcohol. Then reapply a new layer. The stuff is pretty cheap and you should be able to find it in your local computer parts place or Radio Shack. There only needs to be enough thermal grease to fill the texture on each surface to help conduct the heat. If there's too much, it actually resists heat conduction. So, like most things, moderation is the key.

That is not glue it is a thermal conductive compound and needs to be cleaned and put new down. You can get a tube of it for less than $5. The fan should run most of the time, but if it is loud and making different noises then you shoud replace it. They only cost about $4 and are easy to change. All you have to know is the length and width in mm.

They are made to do that when a load is on the system so it can keep the system cool, but you need to replace the thermal paste since you took the fan off the cpu. Alway clean the old paste off the cpu, and put new paste on just a small drop in the center and replace the fan.

The fan is controlled by a thermostat.
It comes on when the processor heats up.
Thats the way it should be.
If you took the fan off, it needs to be
refastened with thermal-conductive paste.
If you don't know how to do this, have it
done by a pro.

Take it to the keep, i think, yet once you have issues interior the destiny, take it in to start with. Its maximum suitable to no longer play healthcare professional the place you have no longer have been given a script pad.... one extra notice, if your computing gadget freezes consistently, then your fan WILL kick on and run LOUDLY. See approximately an anti-virus software. DO you have a fatal disease, do you have too lots on a working laptop or computing gadget with little reminiscence area? Do you have a detrimental connection to the internet, or to something of the computing gadget set-up? those issues could desire to all be factured in... solid success!

I have an AMD and my fan runs all the time and never shuts off. I had a Gateway computer once and the fan did run and shut off quite frequently. I think it's all in the design of the cmputer and i would'nt worrie about it.
