If i wanted to create a website and sell stuff on it, how would i set up a payment method with credit or debit cards? I'm still in college and was thinking about starting a website. is there any way I could do this in my own web site building software? or is there any free, safe ways to do it?
I saw an article about a girl that started an internet business selling her own graphic art. it said her family was pretty broke. and she ended up a millionare CEO at 17. so i was wondering how someone like that starts a website without any web building college schooling or anything that is able to accept money and send it to her.

Starting off, I would not touch customers' credit cards directly. Consider a Yahoo! or eBay storefront. Yes, the per-transaction charges are a lot higher than doing it yourself (e.g., Authorize.Net), but your customers will feel a lot more comfortable giving their personal information to a recognized industry name than... well, you! Also, you're going to save yourself a lot of trouble programming and a lot of potential legal exposure.
After all, if your credit card number is going to be compromized, it's not going to be at Amazon.com or Paypal. It's going to be at AuntBettysApplePies.com because she printed out all the customer records and left them next to her pie rack.

There's a lot of resources about this. You need to learn about e-commerce. Here's one I suggest from lynda.com, "Building an online shopping cart." The 3rd chapter in this video tutorial is the one you're interested to know right now, "Accepting Payments Online." But before that, learn or know at least how e-commerce and online businesses work. This is a really great video training. Highly recommended for starters.

Check with who host the web site.
My host is as low as 1 dollar a month and they offer all these free scripts .. Like a checkout cart and much more and you do not have to know how to program.
I use the 3 dollar package because it gives you the online web builder.
I say this because of the freebies that they offer.
Message boards, Blogs, Private pages and you do not have to know how to program.

Register with paypal and people can pay you useing credit cards. I get paid by credit cards from the things i sel on Ebay.

yeah , I buy stuff on ebay and usually use paypal... so if your selling paypal is the safest way....
