I read that after you give birth, you should not drive a car for 2 weeks. Why would that be?

It's due to your body is just getting to recover from the labour and that your reaction could be a little to slow to respond.

If you have a c-section it will be even longer before you could drive.

I had a normal delivery and it took me one month to recover and did not want to drive at all. I prefer others to drive me around.

The meds. your on will make you really tired. I wondered that too. And I tried to drive anyway. I had already had bad back pain from giving birth but trying to drive made the pain WAY more intense. By the time I got from one place to the next I was hunched over like an old lady.

First of all you will be very tired. And often not enough sleep.
Your body just spent nine months growing a human being in side of you. Then you went through labor with is wonderful but also taxing. Often women lose some blood and are a bit low in red blood cells.

Having a baby is like having an opperation which is draining on the body. Give your self two weeks and let others help you.
Enjoy your little one

I had a c-section and couldn't drive for 2 weeks because of the pain medication that I was on.

Usually you are on intense pain medication. That is the only reason I could ever think of.

As a matter of fact, my discharge nurse at the hospital told me no driving for 6 weeks. I drove after a few days because I didnt use any pain meds at home.

It is very hard to drive especially after a c-section due to intense pain. I tried driving and I cried the whole time.

I've never read that and my midwives of OBs never told me that. I was driving within a couple days. Sounds like hogwash to me. Hopped up on painkillers...HA! If you consider 2 Advil hopped up...

Depending upon how much pain you're going through. The medications you take will make you real drury, might fall asleep while driving!

Its probably so that if you were to hemmorage or have some other freakish and rare post-delivery effect you won't be driving when it happens.
or to let your body rest like you are supposed to.
If you are really concerned ask your doctor.

?? I've never heard of that!! I drove home from the hospital, 2 days after my daughter was born!! Maybe just so you don't react too suddenly or something, and strain yourself. ??
