Well, a lot of it would ultimately depend upon trade and foreign relations, I think.
The Republican country would be entirely paved over. It would be completely flat and suburbanized. Very Fat White People (VFWP's) would spend all their time driving back and forth across it, in a desperate search for food and violent entertainments depicting VFWP's engaged in acts of vengeance. There would be a huge pornography industry, exploiting the few WP women who weren't VF's. People would cluster into large, glittering churches, where they would be whipped to frenzies of hatred for everybody else in the world, all in the name of God.
Their major industry would be publishing, and their major export would be ideology.
The Republicans would farm all industry and agriculture out to other nations, because they wouldn't want mere laboring people to live in their country. They would then become belligerent, and would be invaded. Having lost control of the food supply, they would lose any war that they started.
In addition, their military would consist of hired mercenaries, since the citizenry would be too out of shape to fight. Eventually, though, the military would turn on the Republicans, because they would try to hold down their wages.
The Democrats would prosper. Their country would be highly diverse.
The average weight of the citizenry would be lower, and provide energy to their economy, fueling the GNP.
Many would be very healthy, and provide information to others on how to improve their health with vegetarian diets and exercise.
There would be a combination of flourishing, high-tech, innovative industries. Advanced software would be a major export. Nearly all persons with advanced knowledge of computers and natural science, particularly genetics, would cluster to the Democrats' side.
A preponderance of the people would have college degrees, and many would be engaged in teaching others. Humanitarians would set up organizations to help the less fortunate move ahead.
Trade relations would flourish, because there would be a strong knowledge base in languages and world history, promoting understanding of trading partners abroad.
The arts would flourish, because the vast majority of creative people would live in the Democrat country.
People would have diverse options for using their talents. They would be able to work in science, technology, academia, the arts, and the crafts.
Stores would be stocked with beautiful goods, made by some of the world's most talented people, and would look more like art galleries than stores.
People of all economic classes would dress simply but well, and live in homes appointed with well-made furniture, utilitarian objects, and art.
Differences of opinion with other nations would be settled through negotiation and, if necessary, trade embargoes.
The gene pool would strengthen, because there would be more racial intermingling.
Perhaps most importantly, human capital would not be wasted, because equal opportunities would be offered to all, without regard to color or gender, and human talent would be better utilized.

Hypothetically, if we did split this country in half. One side having a conservative government and the other a liberal one.
Honestly, I think the free market conservative half would be:
1. Safer. No gun control, pro death penalty, and a focus on criminal punishment rather than rehabilitation. We all know that 75% of the military is conservative, and that we'd continue to spend a lot on military technology and for the defense of the nation.
2. Have less poor. The safety net would be taken out, so people would realize they really have to try and work hard to succeed, instead of waiting for handouts. Not to mention with less taxes, the economy would florish and there'd be more jobs. Thus less unemployment. Not to mention immigration would be under control, so those jobs wouldn't go to illegals.
3. Booming economy. There'd be either a flat tax or a fair tax, no capital gains tax, no corporate tax and no inheritence tax. It's more than obvious that low taxes equal a thundering economy, so I don't need to explain.
4. Immigration would be under control. We'd have immigrants come legally, learn English, learn about America's history, it's culture, the constitution, and it's government. Which would better allow immigrants to assimilate into and excel in our society.
5. More freedom. We wouldn't be driven by political correctness, we'd have full private property rights {including all of ones property, money, possessions, land, house}. More focus on personal responsibility and not carrying the brunt of the unemployed mooching off the tax payers. No patheitc big government laws like banning smoking on private property, or banning certain unhealthy foods, or seat belt laws.
6. We'd have a smarter populus. We'd offer free market school choice vouchers, so parents could find the school with the best possible education standards. Instead of damning them to under performing public schools. Best of all, our higher education campuses wouldn't be filled with left wing indoctrinating professors, that only teach one side of an argument. We'd offer both sides, an unbiased free thinking atmosphere like it's suppose to be.
Just to name a few.

I love that Idea, the Republicans get everything west of the Mighty Miss, the Libs can have the rest. All libs will be required to leave the USWest territories which include Alaska and Hawaii
We will have to build a wall to keep the damn libs out though, much like the great wall of China. The only libs we will let stay will have to be spay or neutered so as not to overpopulate and take over again like they have done on the west coastal area of the country.

Since they could no longer tax the Republican side, they'd go broke within a year or two. Whoever was President would most likely suffer the same fate as Benito Mussolini.
On the bright side, Kalifornia would be part of the Demokratik Republik. Perhaps the big one would cause them to break off and float away and we could simply forget about them.

The filthy rich would be in one country. With no one to make them lunch they'd slowly starve and the Dem's would migrate and repopulate it. Some times we're smart enough NOT to wear condoms.

It'd look like 1859; with the Dems representing the Northern States, & the Reps- the Southern States. If you look closely- it's not too far from being like that- now...

Shortly after the split, when the Dem country realized that all of the money they wanted to share was on the GOP side, they would say how they never voted for the split in the first place and how it was all a conspiracy orchestrated to hold down the black man

The Republican intelligence would indicated that Osama was hiding on the Democrat side.
The Democrats would then be invaded, and a Republican democracy would be imposed.
