I would suggest"Sebben, crudele" (Tho' not deserving). Written by Antonio Caldara (1670-1736). You can find it in Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics. Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias of the Seventeenth and Eighteen Centuries.

It's Beethoven's '' Ode to Joy ''
In music you have certain steps, do ray me fa so la te do, usually a scale.
I this case it seems to be the arrangement in those steps, telling you what notes to play.
For example, in the key of C (no sharps or flats,CDEFGABC)
( this is in the treble clef)
me me fa so so fa me ray do do ray me me ray ray
E E F G G F E D C C D E E D D
Those are the notes you'd play to make that song.
It also might, might have been used in the Sound of Music, ''Doe a Deer a Female Deer. ''

Sounds like the theme to Beethovens Symphony No.9 to me - set to the words of Schiller's Ode to Joy.
However, it is not opera.

That tune is Beethoven's setting of the "Ode To Joy", from the final movement of his 9th Symphony. It's not from an opera.

It sounds like the theme to the 'Ode to Joy' (An die Freude), part of the last movement of Beethoven's Symphony No 9 in D minot (The Choral).
It's not opera, but part of a symphony (not everything with singing in it is opera!).

Can't be sure, but this could be "Ode To Joy" from Beethovens Ninth Symphony.
Not an opera....

Ok, I know it's Beethoven.
But come on person, (first answerer), you're a professor and you think that Do-Re-Mi is from Gone With the Wind??? You need your head examined!

The only song I've heard like that is DoReMi from The Sound Of Music which is not an opera, its a Broadway Musical.
