So I was told when I was pregnant all of this stuff that I needed and like a true first time mom listened and just ended up wasting a bunch of money. I'm going to tell you all the tings you dont need....
a boppy pillow, I never even used mine, they're made with comfort in mind, but it just ends up putting more strain on your back.
A changing table...i promise that for the first couple of weeks, and even afterwards you will not want to run to his room everytime he needs a diaper change, I just kept extra wipes and diapers in every room, so I had easy access no matter where i was. And as he gets older, it's just as easy, if not easier to change them in their crib, as they wake up and fell asleep.
A walker, I actually read it a few different places that it actually slows down the rate at which your child will walk. It has to do with developing one part of the leg muscle but not the ones needed for walking. Also they really dont spend much time in them...the process goes so quick, from laying to sitting up, to crawling, to walking.
Also don't go too crazy with lots of diaper rash cream, I literally got a tube from everyone, and my daughter is 11 months old, and never had one rash. It's good to have one just in case, but you never know you might get lucky.
Now the essentials....obviously bottles, whether you decide to breast feed or bottle feed you need lots and lots..if you are breast feeding NUK nipples work great, as well as soothie nipples, they also have pacifiers in the same brand, my daughter loved them!
Diapers, lotions, shampoos, body wash, towels, washcloths, and a baby tub. I got one that went through the three stages and it was great. For when he's small it was a mesh net that he will lay in,and you can easily take it off and wash it :), and later when you don't need it, it becomes a regular tub.
Also one thing that worked wonders for my daughter and I was her baby swing. She had the Rainforest version from target, but it really doesn't matter. When i would be in the middle of cleaning or cooking and she waned to be held and rocked i would put her in there, and she would be happy for awhile. She loved it and it kept me sane in the process and the house clean..
Hope this helped, any other question let know!

The website Donya suggested is a great place to start. Trust me, you do not want to wait until "after" to get what you need. You absolutely will not feel like shopping afterwards for a few weeks, maybe even a few months with the lack of sleep you be getting!
It really is best to just go ahead and have everything (and lots of it) ready now. That way you can just relax with your new bundle of joy!
oh and one tip, when you make the bed for your child, put twp sets of sheets/matress pads down that way if there is an accident you only have to pull off the top two layers and are not struggling to change the entire bed at 3am

Carter's brand of newborn lasted longer than other brands, and didn't shrink as much. Definately buy more 0-3 months because your son will outgrow his clothes fast! If your going to bottle feed/suppliment, get lots of bibs, because they spit out the milk from the sides of their mouth. Receiving blankets are awesome for swaddling, Target's Circo brand is cheap and the blankets are a good size. I would also recommend a stroller that only holds the car seat. It's alot smaller than using an entire travel system, and is lighter too. I just got one from babiesr'us (graco snugrider) and I wish I would have gotten it 3 months ago!! It was only 60 bucks and it has been worth every penny. Hope I helped you out!

you will need at least two sheats for whatever bed the baby uses. a few burp rags. 4 undershirts At early age the baby usually doesn't need to change in to clothing . They live in their sleepers. If you don't have a washer and dryer you will need more of everthing
I would have 4 sleepers on hand. the first couple months they grow so fast. All of my kids went from size small to large not even wearing the medium sizes.
Have 4 wrapping blankets and two other blankets
2 baby caps
4 tiny socks
Lots of diapers on hand
Add patience & love and you will do fine

diapers(!)
wipes(!)
crib
blankets
baby soap
baby tub
bottles and formula (if not breast feeding)
nursing bras and pads (if breast feeding)
stroller
car seat
bouncy seat
comfy padded rocking chair
.... and lots of help... and sleep!
if you have all this you are ready for your baby... everything else can wait or is not really necessary (in my opinion).
the first few month are nothing but feedings, diaper changes, baths, and long nights without sleep... and amazing moments with baby.
lots of luck and love to you and baby.

honestly, i never expected to get anything really big from my friends and family. i got all the big things i needed in my 5th month (crib, chaning table, stroller, car seat, etc.) just to get it out of the way. i tryed to make it so i could tell them exactly what i wanted. cherry woods and the colors of the room. to help them out some. i always told them cloths cloths cloths because babies out grow them so quickly. if anything make sure you get a car seat, the hospital wont let you bring the baby home without one! (as im sure you know) ^_^ best of luck and congrats! ^_^
