In Indiana, the big uproar is our property taxes. We just got them for the year last week and they are all due on November 30.People have been marching in protest. It is a bunch of crap that they tax us for where we live and not for what our house is worth. My ex built a new home in the country worth 4 times what my house in town is worth. But, I live in a district that has alot of schools plus they put in two new housing additions and factories, so that created more roads, etc. My property taxes are almost half of what my house payment is And, I keep reading all these articles about the rise in home foreclosures like they can't figure it out. Elections are this Tuesday. Vote some of these people out of office!!!!.

I'm in Canada, at the moment the Harper government , who screamed for inquiries when they were in opposition and said they were going to get rid of scandal and be open, are avoiding an inquiry that should be done with regard to former PM Brian Mulroney and the business dealings he had with this slimy german guy Schreiber.

As well the Harper government is turning back the clock and trying to revive the death penalty debate here, despite signing on on a recent UN order, by saying they won't apply for clemency for Canadians convicted of capital crimes in democratic countries like the US and elsewhere. When just last week they told someone they would apply for clemency in his case.

The conservative accuse the Liberals of flipflopping but they are just as hypocritical as the Liberals, the Bloc, the NDP.

The only thing Stephen Harper wants is a majority so he's doing everything he can to provoke an election, with the Bloc and the NDP opposing while the Liberals are abstaining on votes, even though they HATE doing it , because they know the Canadian public does NOT want an election.

Harper is just showing what a lousy leader he really is. He's not statesman, he's a hick control freak.

We, in Australia, have an Election coming up this month. On the 24th (I think). So the boxing gloves are out, the advertisement are staring and sparring on Television. The posters are clinging to the wind on trees, and the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader are hugging children in the shopping malls. But a much more important event is on.

The Melbourne Racing Carnival, The Melbourne Cup. And this takes precedence over the election for a while at least. There is two weeks of horse racing, with the finest horses from all over the world, running. If I was in Melbourne now, I would see the city decked out in beautiful flowers, and everybody heading for the racecourse in their beautiful dresses and hats. And I can't resist watching those beautiful animal, with their shining coats, racing down the track, the colours of the jockeys. Wonderful sight. The sport of Kings.

Much more fun than listening to the politicians rave.. Ah! You didn't know I love horses and horse racing now did you? But I don't go. Growing up, one of my Uncles owned a stud Farm and bred and trained horses. It was one of my favourite places to go. Sorry, I got off the track, of the real question there. Yes, an Election. Who will run Australia?

Like Jilly above, I'm also in Australia. With the Federal election coming up in just a few weeks, all the media are flooding us with pre-election advertising which we all hate of course. I never knew a single person who voted based on what a political advertisement said.

The big issues here at the moment are - our involvement in the war in Iraq, the health system...should it be taken over by the federal government or left to the states? But probably the "biggie" is the Industrial Relations changes.

A couple of years ago, our esteemed leader, John Howard, changed the industrial relations laws in order to completely undermine the power of the unions in this country. He introduced "workplace agreements" which effectively mean that each worker can be asked to make his/her own agreement with the boss. Collective bargaining with the backing of the unions is out, and its a case of "you're on your own" where your wages and conditions are concerned.

Most of us, at our age, are not so much worried about this, as worried for the younger generation. I certainly have grave concerns for my kids, who are just starting out in the workforce.

The Opposition have made promises that they will "tear up this legislation" if they are voted in....but this is law we are talking about. You can't just tear it up. So, we will all wait with baited breath to find out what will happen next.

I'll just be gald when its all over - I can only take so much political advertising !

I am, for the time, living in Kansas. This state makes the south look liberal. There is no "political uproar" here. Unless you think a person running on a platform of, "Vote for me because this state is traditionally Republican and I am a Republican," constitutes an uproar. No kidding, that was one guy's platform. I don't remember, but I think he was running for village idiot.

I live in USA and currently we are under the Presidential Election siege via TV, Radio and all other media forms. These debates, discussions etc of course cover a wide range of topics from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the rising price of oil, the cost of living (which is of course drastically affected by these goings on), Social Security and Medicare Benefits to name few. Each one topic is definitely a huge issue on its own, but the current siege will continue until November of 2008 - - - AAaaaaaagh!!!!!! CJ

Well lets see, some Republicans have been caught in gay situations. And of course some Democrats are cheating on their wives again, and getting caught. A lot of controversy in the upcoming Presidential elections. Always something.

Same old in the U.S. Bush-bashing, which isn't in and of itself a bad thing. But in Australia after reading the news I think the whole country is in a state of wake-up whoop-*** mood.
