yes any child under the age of 18 can collect (Or mom can collect on childs behave) should this child be on SSI for anyother reason (Say injurer or birthdeafect) it would be added to the check they are already getting and if the partents dies before the child is of the age of 24 (It could be 22 too) and are already collecting bens they will get something extra for life. The only reason why I know this is a friends of mine husband just passed away and her daughter who is on SSI was able to get a little more because of these factors plus my cousins daughters dad died when she was two (Not married) and she gets a check each month to help out with things.

He child who lost a father can collect SS basted on his father's income. I don't think he would lose out since they weren't married since they have proved he was the father.
I am sorry for the child's loss of his father and your friend's loss of a boyfriend. Go to SSA.Gov to read about benefits.

That would depend on how long he worked and how much $ he made. If he worked 6 credits (1 quarter year = 1 credit) she should qualify. Have mom go to SSA and apply. They will have all the records and she will know when they are done if she qualifies. good luck!!
