Think about this! Is there a band you can think of, (then or now) that you can compare to The Who??? Need some help here, drawing a blank.

I think The Kinks are the only band that can remotely compare to The Who. Both of those bands had that "protopunk" sound and idea.

Pink Floyd draws the biggest comparison.

Both bands are highly innovative, I'd say easily the most innovative bands in rock and roll history.

Both are known for incredible live shows, Pink Floyd's more extravagent, The Who's just damn good.

Both known for constantly reinventing themselves, no two Who albums sounds the same, same goes for Floyd.

They both started out with similar sounds too, then began to embrace synths, although they went in completely different directions, before ending on similar notes in the 80's, as A Momentary Lapse of Reason and It's Hard are very similar to me.

Both have rock operas, The Who invented them with Tommy, and then put out Quadrophenia, and Pink Floyd has The Wall. Both also have concept albums, like The Who Sell Out and Wish You Were Here. Also, their rock operas were made into feature films.

I could go on, but no band compares easier than Pink Floyd and the Wall, and both were influences on each other.

The Kinks are what came to mind first.

According to Last.FM:
The Doors, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Cream are the most similar artists.

No one...but then I don't think anyone can compare with the Stones, Pink Floyd, the Beatles or many other groups.

The Kinks or the Rolling Stones both had periods where they were similar to them.

Yes, for the song behind blue eyes,i prefer the cover by limp bizkit, they pulled it off heaps well!!! The who's version may be more famous, but i think the tone of the who's voice doesnt get the meaning through about the song.

Good Question,

Luke.
