Ayn Rand, Orsen Wells, Huxley, Michener were my favorites.

No did not read The Alexander Quartet - but read all of Ayn Rands books. Loved them. They all had very valuable lessons to them. Am now 66 and have read all of my life. I love Bios and mysteries, whodunits, history and just about everything else, except Danielle Steele. Currently reading Faye Kellerman - Dream Street. Like her husbands writing too! Have a wonderful evening! CJ

When I was very young, I'd only read animal stories 'cause that's what I liked. When mom and the librarian forbid me from reading anymore animal books, I stopped reading anything until junior year in high school when a very popular person I had a secret crush on (I was painfully shy) walked up to me in front of everyone, handed me Damien (by Hesse) and told me I was the only other person who'd understand that book (meant in a good way). Of course, I immediate read the book and a lot of others and haven't quit still (yes, I've read Ayn Rand). Reading has been a good friend now for a long time, my comfort (my whole family loves to read including the little kids--most of our kids start reading at around 3 years old. In fact, reading is sort of a vice for us as weird as that may sound). And, yes, I still love reading animal stories and no one can forbid me anymore!! but I also read a lot of other things too. And I still have that secret crush and mentally send my best thoughts to that sweet person who thought enough of me to force me to start reading again)..

Do not recall reading The Alexander Quartet.
Did read Atlas Shrugged, Anthem and Night of January 16th
Did not read much of Ayn Rand's non-fiction/philosophy.
Lets see if I can remember:
Ages in Chaos
I read several other books by Velikofsky (sp) I guess I'll need to follow your link. I can not recall any other titles.
I read Any Rand as a teenager .... Velikovsky as I was hitting 30.

In my preteen years I read The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley. All little girls love horses! As a teen I read movie and romance magazines. I started reading Perry Mason books because my mother did and got hooked on mysteries. From there to Harold Robins books, The Adventurers was terrific. (the movie, horrible) All of Ayn Rand's, a few classics, early Stephen King. I now read everything except horror, fantasy, western, and romance.

I read Ayn Rand's ' Atlas Shrugged' in1954. I then thought she has written the future forecast of India and now in 2007 still believe that what she wrote has come very true in this country. I did not have chance to read Velikofsky. The books I liked most were written by Alexander Dumas, Hemingway and Pearl S. Buck. Thanks for taking my mind back to fifties, of which I have sweet memories of life in college and hostel.

I was an avid reader as a child, and have been so all of my life. I've never read L.Durrell's books, but was always a great fan of his brother Gerald, who wrote animal stories. Most of my life, I'd say I've probably read about 2 to 3 books each week. I mainly read biographies and autobiographies, history and travel books. Can't say I've ever been a great fiction reader, although i do occasionally delve into the classics such as Dickens and Austen.

Usually everything I could get my hands on. I, however, do not like Ayn Rand, too wordy for my taste. Not enough to bite into with my mind. I need simplicity, yet taste. I like to savor what I read, much as a gourmand likes food. I want to enjoy what I read and reading Ayn's books just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. But that is just me, if you enjoy her stuff, great. I do like Ben Bova, Matthew Reilly, Jack DuBrul, James Doss, John Dunning and a myriad bunch of other authors in the fantasy genre too.

Never read The Alexander Quartet. Read Ann Rand's "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged." I do not agree with her philosophy even if we are both Atheists.
If by Velikofskly you mean the guy who wrote "When World's Collide," yeah read that. Intertaining, but IMO that is all.

Yes, I loved reading, as a child. I still do! In fact, my Dad bought the old classics for me to read and I loved those books. After their deaths, I ended up with those books! They are worn and many have the bindings hanging but, they are priceless to me!
I also participated in every book reading contest the school presented! "The Call of the Wild," "A Measure in Time," "Little Women"...etc!
Yep, I'm pretty much a bookworm and always have been.

No, not one of them.
I did see the Fountainhead on TCM.
I am glad you read better books than I did.
I concentrated a lot of my time on Frank Yerby books as a teenager. I also read a lot of novels about English History. I am a US citizen and English History has always been an interest to me.
You are to be applauded.
