I have to make huge rocks for around the manger for my church musical at the end of this month. The less expensive the better! Well, low budget to no budget if you know what I mean! They will be on stage and need to look somewhat realistic. if you are going to suggest cardboard, where can I get some big enough pieces for cheap?

Chicken wire and paper mache, then paint. As long as no one is going to sit or stand on them, they'll work fine. Just shape the chicken wire however you want your boulder to look, cover with paper mache (even the kids can do this part) then pain when it's dry. To make it more realistic looking make sure your shape has lots of edges to it and do different shades of gray and maybe sponge or other paint techniques to finish your boulders. The glue for your paper mache can be made with equal parts flour and water if I remember corectly, but you can look it up.

good luck!
