When "time-out" means standing, facing a corner, and their sentence is doubled if they make a peep, or turn around to face the open room, you'll not have to repeat the punishment too many times.

Depends on the situation. Some things call for Three swats with my hand and somethings call for time out. Never Whip while you are angry strong potential to lead to abuse.

I know it's frowned upon by a lot of folks now, but I whip.
Back in the day, when whipping was more widely accepted, my mom whipped the crap out of me, but it made me what I am today. I would like to think I turned out very well.

I do both. Sometimes my little man doesn't agree to the terms of a time out so i spank instead. It always depends on the crime. He's definately not an abused child...

If I had kids, I would use the timeout punishment.

I really don't do either. I got my bluff in early. I usually just have to say their name to make them mind me. I have 3 kids, 17, 9 and 3 and they all mind really good.

Good for you, but I did both. Discipline is different for everyone.
I only had to spank until he was 4, he then understood my boundaries for him.

Time-out is definitely the way to go, if you're consistant it really does work. Hitting a child doesn't teach them anything but fear.
