Oh dear... sigh... if nominated I will run, if elected I will serve. But I'd better build a platform, stat!
1. The topic of Peter Edward Rose will be hereby banned permanently from Y!A Baseball. Anyone raising the topic of Peter Edward Rose will be assigned not fewer than 25 thumbs-down. The specific subtopic of Peter Edward Rose's fictional candidacy for the National Baseball Hall Of Fame will be punishable by hanging without appeal. LET THIS ONE GO ALREADY!!!
2. George Herman "Babe" Ruth is hereby recognized as The Greatest Player In Baseball History, and this title may not be disputed for a minimum of ten years. Questions may debate which player(s) are second best, third best, and so on; but the standing of Ruth shall not be debated.
3. A Secretary of Time shall be appointed, whose sole task shall be to maintain a readily available schedule of upcoming events, that the people may consult it directly to learn "when is X going to be?" (for any baseball-related value of X) in a speedy and accurate manner. Events on the schedule shall include but not be limited to: Opening Day; All-Star Games (including host parks); postseason games; award announcements, including Hall Of Fame election and induction dates; spring training reporting for pitchers and catchers; and the known retirement of Commissioner Selig.
4. The status of certain players involved in the indisputable fixing of the outcome of certain games of the 1919 World Series shall not be disputed without new evidence. Claims of injustice based upon works of fiction -- and we're looking at you, Field Of Dreams -- will be considered invalid.
5. True Fandom shall be conferred only upon those potential fans who exhibit appropriate humility when their chosen team loses in addition to any wanton boostering of their chosen team when it wins. True Fans must also demonstrate understanding of how Major League Baseball breaks ties among potential postseason teams, including situations wherein an additional regular season ("playoff") game is, or is not, required. Bandwagon Fans are hereby put on notice that these are the barest minimum criteria for elevation to True Fandom. You wanna be a True Fan, you have to work to earn it.
6. True Fans shall maintain one and only one Y!A pseudonym. A True Fan stands behind his or her opinions with courage and conviction.
7. Fans (True or Bandwagon) of any established team, which fairly claims 20 or more past World Series championships, shall give it a rest for the duration of the 2008 Major League Baseball season, wherein "it" is defined as any slogans purporting to add another ordained championship to the pile. Fans of less storied teams are similarly prohibited from cribbing the concept, unless it is funny, as which any team with valid claim to zero past championships, e.g. "1 in '08", or forward-predictive to an excessive degree, e.g. "27 in '27".
8. Predictions of candidates getting elected to the Hall Of Fame under the purview of the Veterans Committee shall not be permitted, until such time that the standing Veterans Committee actually inducts at least one candidate and therefore effectively demonstrates that, yes, it really will elect someone sometime, preferably this century.
9. No player active within Major League Baseball shall be considered "overpaid" or "not worth that much" for any salary. Any amount offered to any free agent is, by definition, his market value. Such wanton economic ignorance and innumeracy shall not be tolerated in Y!A Baseball, but all posters found in violation of this shall, after appropriate sanction, be given a recommendation for employment in any financial-related branch of the US Federal Government, as you'd fit right in there, and this will keep you mostly out of trouble until January 2009.
10. The active status of William Roger Clemens shall be his own damn business, and no one in Y!A shall be permitted to presume to speak for him in this matter.
11. A statement regarding Barry Bonds will be added at a later date, as the coffee is starting to wear off.
12. This candidate will serve not more than one term. And that's a promise.
13. Triskadekaphobia will have no place in this administration. Nyahhh!

Nah Chipmaker can be the Prez but I want Porgie as Secretary of Defense because I know that he will terminate with extreme prejudice anybody who starts talking about why Pete Rose should be in the HOF
