1. 11 / x-2 multiplied 2x^2-8 / 44

[ 11 / (x-2) ] [2(x-2)(x+2) / 44] -- just factored the numerator

now the (x-2) cancels and the 11 & the 2 cancel with the 44 leaving:
(x+2)/2

that's it! Hope you understand.

you multiply the numerators together and the denominators together.

So, you'll have ( 11 * (2x^2 -8) ) / ( (x-2) * 44) which is
( 22x^2 - 88) / (44x - 88).

Now, if you look at it you should notice that all of those numbers are multiples of 11, and if you look again they're also multiples of 2, making them multiples of 22 (if you saw that first, great). So, we can "pull out" a 22 from the numerator and denominator:

(22 * (x^2- 4)) / ( 22 * (2x-4)) and then cancel the 22 / 22 = 1. So you get (x^2 - 4) / (2x-4).

Notice again, you can factor x^2 - 4 as (x+2)*(x-2), and the 2x-4 is the same as 2*(x-2). So:

( (x+2) * (x-2) ) / (2 * (x-2)) = (x+2) / 2

if you wished, you may also call it 0.5x + 1

1. 11 / x-2 multiplied 2x^2-8 / 44

In multiplying fractions, multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator:

11...........2x^2 - 8
---- X----------------
x-2..............44

Use cancellation
-- divide both11 and 44 by 11
-- Factor 2x^2 - 8 = (x-2) (2x+4), then cancel out (x-2)

Answer:
2x + 4
-----------
4

To simplify further, factor:

2 (x + 2)
------------
2 (2)

Cancel out 2:

Answer:
x+2
-----
2

Crossmultiply

11 2x^2-8
=== x -------------
x-2 44

11 2(x^2-4)
---- x -------------
x-2 44

11 2(x-2)(x+2)
---- x --------------
x-2 44

11 becomes 1 and 44 becomes 4
the 2 x-2 cancel out and the 2becomwa a 1 and the 4 becomes a 2

Answer x+2/2
