medicine countries? I don't think I would be willing to give the government such a huge amount of my paycheck to fund a disaster.

Joshua, companies like the one you work for are getting sued on a daily basis. We give all of our patients the number to their local representative so that they can file a grievance. We also report the problem to our local and state medical societies. This has been pretty effective.

I don't pay anything for my health care coverage. There are stil many US businesses that fully fund the health insurance premium.

No, thank you. I'm quite happy with the health care I currently get and would hate to see how bad it would get once the government f**ks it up.

Veg...NOBODY, I REPEAT, NOBODY, has mentioned socilized medicine. The issue is affordable HEALTH INSURANCE. Let me repeat that..HEALTH INSURANCE. This is something that you already pay for one way or another. A single payer UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE plan would save YOU money. Let me repeat that...SAVE YOU MONEY. With the added benefit that no matter what, a huge amount of YOUR future medical bills will be paid to the doctor or hospital of YOUR CHOICE in full and on time. NO....the government isn't going to put doctors on the federal pad or own all the hospitals. That end of the equation will remain the same. Anyone who tells you that UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE is any different is trying to con you. Some of the answers you're going to get will mention Canada or England or beat up a strawman enemy that doesn't exist. This is straight insurance...everyone pays, but everyone pays less. Unlike now when a lot of people don't pay and those that do pay for those that don't. Don't be fooled, and don't fool yourself.

England has this same national health care (NHS).

Recently, an older man needed hip-replacement surgery. So he went through the NHS. Finally, he gets to the front of the line. The doctors cancel his appointment, so he has to go back to the back of the line. After about 6 months of agonizing and debilitating pain, he decides to go through the private sector. He goes into his life savings and gets private health insurance. By the time he is able to get the surgery, he has no hip left. After he gets the money on his own (9,000 pounds), 4 days later he gets his surgery.

A man was dying of cancer. He needed a specific medication, but the NHS didn't cover it because it wasn't "cost effective". His 6 year old daughter was so afraid of losing him, she made posters and hung them up all over town. She ended up raising enough money for about a month's treatment.

These are just two of many stories like this. If we get socialized health care, we can look forward to the same things.

Edit:

To Noah H- Universal heath care IS THE SAME THING AS SOCIAL HEALTH CARE!

Do you know the definition of communism? Everybody pulls their money together, and then it is dispersed evenly among all. I don't want my hard earned money paying for someone else's health care because they are too lazy to get a job.

Get a chance check out Americans for Prosperity. www.americansforprosperity.org. We are just a small group of individuals(1600 members total). Check em out.

yea. It woulkd have real nice to have had some of the SBHP's(Small business health plans) pass in the middle of 2005. We wouldn't be talking about socialized healthcare now. Of course if anything we should be able to see why they did not pass it. Tax shelters my a55. Get ready to get severely ripped off.

Kristen F: Very good answer on both parts.

Other question, how much do you pay for the present health care "disaster"

1) directly through your insurance premiums
2) indirectly through your employer's contributions to your insurance premuims.
3)How much is your cost portion of premiums directly related to the cost of services because of the uninsured using the most expensive form of medical care (emergency room)

If you paid a tax equal to your current employee portion of health insurance and could go to any doctor, anywhere, why wouldn't you do it? What is the incrimental cost to you if you do, or if you don't?

What if it lowered hospital operating costs and they actually passed these cost savings to you in the form of increased benefits for the same cost if say a majority switched to the "single government payer" plan?

No it does not work anywhere it has been tried. And once you are in it it is hard to get out. Why do the left wing pro- big govt, anti- middle class & the poor think that every nation has got it is trying to find a way to get a system like our?

The return to slavery will be when we work for the state for all of our "free" benefits and can barely afford to feed our families, or step up in economic class because the govt has tied our hands by taking all of our money to fund the needs of the poor and the lazy.

No way! I can find my own medical coverage without the extra "help". Thanks! Besides, if you like dealing with other federal agencies such as the IRS & HUD then you'll have a ball dealing with this large new bureaurocracy!
