It depends on where you work and where you live. My girlfriend has to be tested every 6 months while she's lifeguarding. And if they're not anywhere else ~ they should be. Every other life saving profession has to be drug tested and so should lifeguards.
The fact that you even had to ask this question worries me though. Why would it matter to someone unless they're doing drugs? And if they are then becoming a life guard should be out of the question. Talk about a job that requires the utmost responsibility. We're talking saving peoples lives here. I sure wouldn't want someone that irresponsible in charge of mine or anyone else's safety for that matter.
If someone wants to waste their life away doing drugs that's their deal ... but it needs to stay their deal. They'd be better off finding a job where if their drug use affects their job performance ... it won't hurt anyone BUT themselves.

Yes! I mean if not, i would never swim at the pool you are working at. I mean look at the responsibility you have as a lifeguard, its your responsibility to look after the people in the pool to make sure they don't drown, and if your taking drugs and under the influence of drugs while working, you would be in a daze and would not care if there was a kid drowning in that pool! I seriously hope that you quit drugs!

I sure as heck hope so, but I think it depends upon the rules of the place you are hired to lifeguard for.

hey. if I'm drowning i don't care if it's a crackhead. Last year i had a seizure in the surf and would have drowned if not for a 8 year old boy that saw me go down. he told his dad and he fished me out. I don't know whether he was high or not but i really don't care. i woke up in the ambulance.and never even got the guys name. it was at Cape San Blas Florida. if you are reading this and it was you.THANKS!!

I certainly hope so. If you are taking drugs and are a lifeguard, I wouldn't want to swim at your pool.

It would depend on WHO Is hiring / employing you... I sure that a City/County or larger private firm would test.
I worked for 4 years for a private swim-tennis club, and we had no drug testing due to the costs... BUT, if we had suspicions, you'd be fired.
GOOD LUCK

No. You have to pass a swimming test, which is simple if you just remember you're not in a race. I was the oldest one there and I was sick that day. I finished dead last, but I got my license and my choice of jobs.

well, i would think so. i mean, if you're intoxicated and you're expected to save someone, how well is that gonna turn out? if your on drugs, well, i'd advise you to stop, even if a drug test isn't required. good luck.
