This is very complicated and, I don't care who you got your answers from.
We were not, at the time "the most powerful country in the world" in the first place we were on the edge of being broken. We had four million men coming in from all over the globe in a last ditch stand to end the war with the Japanese, that was one reason our government decided to use the "A" bomb, our Government didn't think we could, with our strength, really end the war with Japan and still come out ahead.
Germany was not "allied" with anyone. Germany was "divided" amongst the three, France was invited to "come along for the ride" great powers, Russia, America, Britain and France. A line running down Germany put one side in Russia and one side in The Western side with Berlin divided, along with the central government, amongst the "powers" evenly every month.
Germany never did come back to power, they weren't allowed to. Do you see a German army or Air force in actual operation other then a small reserve action?

It was only West Germany that was eventually allied to the US. East Germany was allied to the Soviet Union.
Both parts of Germany were allied to their occupiers in the Cold War as a forward base against the other side.

It did not, half Germany went to the russians and half to the Allies Britain, France and the US, why because we all wanted German Technology which led to the Nuclear Submarines and ICBM Missiles and the moon shots and the Space station. Germany would have won the war if they had not disregarded Einstein because he was a Jew and had used his science to build a nuclear device to go with Von Brauns Missiles.
Remember Germans invented the Atom bomb, space travel, the first jet plane to fly, Germans, mien farterland, invented this then we came to US and made US the greatest nation on earth.
