An anorexic is one with the mental illness "anorexia nervosa." The anorexic starves him/her (usually a her) himself because he/she thinks he's/she's fat and overweight. In reality they are incredibly already thin. Some anorexics have starved themselves to death to look good and thin.

Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder that mainly effects women (though some men do suffer from it as well). It is characterized by the person strictly controlling their eating because they believe themselves to be overweight. They usually have a very limited food intake, so become very, very thin. Despite sometimes appearing skeletal, many sufferers still see themselves as fat. The people you encounter must believe that you are also very thin and are saying that you are actually TOO thin.
They are not being very kind to say this to you. This is especially true considering what a serious and terrible disorder anorexia can be.

Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes an eating disorder characterized by low body weight and body image distortion with an obsessive fear of gaining weight. Individuals with anorexia often control body weight by voluntary starvation, purging, vomiting, excessive exercise, or other weight control measures, such as diet pills or diuretic drugs.
Maybe you LOOK anorexic.... are you skinny compared to the other girls in your town/neighborhood/city?
If so then just clear it out to people that you're not anorexic, you eat well(do you?......just checking!!) and to maybe stop calling you that.

It means that you are horribly "skinny" and need more "proper nutrition." There is no "excuse" for trying to be "skinny." Now, if it is a health problem, please see a doctor right away. This will resolve your concerns about your "appearance" and the "general demeanor" of your health. I wish you well. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? - Romans 8:31. The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the God of our salvation. Selah. - Psalm 68:19. Peace, Love and God Bless.

www.dictionary.com; www.webmd.com :
Anorexia nervosa is a life-threatening eating disorder that is characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss.
"[an-uh-rek-see-uh]" or "anorexia nervosa -neː(r)ˈvousə)", as it is pronounced, is an abnormal fear of being fat that makes people, especially girls and young women, starve themselves.
www.raderprograms.com/anorexia.aspx :
The main characteristic is the restriction of food and the refusal to maintain a minimal normal body weight. Most Anorexics lose weight by restricting their food intake. Anorexics may start by limiting or excluding foods that they perceive as having high fat or caloric content.
Once the disorder of Anorexia Nervosa takes hold, the individual usually ends up with an extremely restrictive diet that is sometimes limited to only a small number of foods. Additional methods of weight loss for Anorexics can include vomiting, laxative abuse, diuretic abuse, insulin abuse, chew-spitting, and excessive exercise
For individuals suffering from Anorexia Nervosa, any actual gain or even perceived gain of weight is met with intense fear of becoming fat. With Anorexia Nervosa, weight loss usually does not lessen the fear, and in fact, the fear often increases following the weight loss. Not only is there a true feeling of fear, but also once in the grasp of the disorder, Anorexics experience body image distortions. Most individuals suffering from Anorexia have an overall feeling of being overweight.
Some Anorexics have an understanding that they are thin, but are concerned that parts of their bodies are fat. Those areas of the body usually representing maturity or sexuality including the buttocks, hips, thighs, and breasts are visualized by the Anorexic as being fat.(Note: some young girls with the disorder feel if their breasts develop or they start a monthly cycle, they won't be "Daddy's Little Girl" anymore). An individual with Anorexia Nervosa will often obsessively check their body size and weight through frequent weighing, measuring, pinching, and viewing themselves in a mirror.
With Anorexia self-esteem and self worth is tied directly to the Anorexic's body shape and weight. For an Anorexic, weight loss is viewed as a success, a sign of extraordinary self-discipline, and control over life. Conversely, any real or perceived weight gain is seen as a personal failure and loss of control for the Anorexic.
For some Anorexics, weight loss is so severe there is a loss of menstruation. Medical complications for individuals with Anorexia Nervosa can be severe and even life threatening. Some of the more common potential medical complications include emaciation, bradycardia, hypotension, hypothermia, impaired renal functioning and gastrointestinal problems. For a complete list of potential medical problems for Anorexia Nervosa, visit our Medical Complications page.
If Anorexia Nervosa is left untreated, it can be fatal.
(My opinion)
I hope all the above is not too technical, but basically someone who is anorexic is VERY VERY thin as far as body image goes--to everyone but the person involved. The anorexic feels just the opposite--if their weight changes even an OUNCE, they feel they are fat. You can often encircle their arm with just your forefinger and thumb, count their ribs and/or nearly every bone in their body. I saw a young lady on a talk show awhile back who was trying to reverse her anorexia, but I don't know if she succeeded. The last time I saw her, she weighed only 60 pounds (her illness started because of her boyfriend. She weighed a normal weight for her height and body frame--something like 115--and because he kept calling her fat or other rude names to that effect, she began to starve herself. He finally left her when her weight was down to 90--what they had agreed on--but because of all the bad self-esteem, she continued to lose weight.
There are pictures of famous people who struggled with the disorder (and its "sister disease" bulimia) at www.anorexics.net. Some of those listed have died from this.
So, I am urging you--if this sounds at all like you, PLEASE GET HELP. It is a major killer among young girls, and now even boys.
