The highest point of evolution is unattainable in the physical form. Though we may evolve higher.

Some day we may hope to attain the evolutionary status of a cell phone battery.

The asker makes a good point, which is that any predominant thing in our culture can almost be seen as equally successfull. But I expect humans to outlast the cellphone battery, because I expect humans to outlast the cellphone, and ni any event upon the demise of humans, that way too shall go the cell phone battery.

Evolution, in its current model, is like a round bush, with any of the past year's branch tips representing extant (still living) species. You question is like, what is the tip of that bush? Well, it has many. Humans are one, but so is any extant species. Extinct species are like ones that were pruned part of the way to the outseide of the bush, or like what used to constitute the lower parts of the limbs themselves.

If you're asking where species are headed in the future, as to what will be the nature of their being, I think the sky's the limit.
