Well, it looks like you came to the right place to get your answer.
NO.
Persons in the astronomy section do not subscribe to false disinformation from psuedoscience or psychic websites to obtain their information. And they do not blindly accept claims without verifying the source and validity first.
Perhaps yahoo needs to expand into yet another category for those who are not only too lazy to discern fact from fiction but also too lazy to search for similar questions already asked.
FYI the calendar mentions NOTHING about your supposed alignment. This is a misinterpretation of the visual sunrise when the Milky Way is low on the horizon. This is only AS VIEWED FROM EARTH just as the constellations seem to go around the Earth. The Sun is not in "alignment" with the galactic center. The visual effect is caused by precession.
Stay off of 2012 websites if you are gullable or foolish. Most of them are preaching fiction.
You will gain no respect here by being a false doomsayer prophet.

None of that is true.
The Maya calendar does not say the Sun is in direct alignment with the center of our galaxy ever. The Mayans did not know about the galaxy. Anyway the Sun lines up with the center of the galaxy every year, when the Sun is in Sagittarius.
The Mayan calendar does not end on that date any more than our calendar will end in the year 9999. Our calendar will just roll over to 10000. They Mayan calendar will do something similar in 2012, only they don't call it 2012 or 9999 or anything like that because they do not use base 10 numbers.

First, the sun will not be in direct alignment with the center of the galaxy - our orbit isn't tilted that way so the Earth, sun, and galactic centre don't align.
Second, even if it did align - why would that make any difference? The galactic centre is 25,000 light years away, hidden behind thick clouds of dust and gas (we can't even see it with normal telescopes).
Third, the calendar ends on that date. Each time the Mayan calendar ended they simply started a new one. Like our year calendars - they end on December 31 each year, but the world doesn't end, you just get a new calendar that starts the new year on Jan 1). But there are no Mayans around anymore, so no new calendars.

There can't be such a thing as a "direct alignment" with only 2 points - the sun and the center of the galaxy. It takes at least 3 points for an alignment. A month from now the end-of-the-world faddists will be on to their prediction. I'm pretty sure it will involve Nostradamus.

Ah, there have been numerous topics about this. The Mayan calendar dos not decide the fate of the Earth or any other planet. If, emphasis on "if", the world does end in 2012, it will likely be a coincidence or a completely different reason.

If Bush doesn't get us all killed by starting World War 3 before then.
Who knows. Just try to live right and be prepared.
Does it really matter? I mean, not to be morbid, but you could get killed tomorrow in a drive by or a car accident.
I say be prepared to meet your maker at all times.
Try your best, no one is perfect.

Oh, yes. For sure. And I'll be waiting in my lawn chairs with chips and dip and my most favorite beer, imported, without a doubt, and just waiting for all the excitement. God Bless you.

Unfortunately, we will have to wait and see what happens. My house is supposed to be paid off in 2013, so this world had better last past 2012

Solar signs do signify changes but we can only see their physical effects in shape of change in weather or floods or earthquakes or upheavals of many kind. But to link that to end of the world is naive for as long as there is one good person who bows before Allah and praises him Allah will not end the world and this count is before you and posterity.
