.. show them smiling? Who smiles when they exercise? I mean, c'mon. You're concentrating. Why do they do that on commercials? Try to make things all fuzzy and happy? It's just fake to me. Doesn't make me feel fuzzy inside. Do people really buy into that?

They are posing for the camera. When I am weightlifting, my face is a painful scowl. Because the weights are HEAVY! If I tried to smile for the camera, when lifting, it would be very difficult to fake a good smile.
Who can smile on a exercise ball? You are fighting with all your might to keep your balance and keep from falling; HARD, down to the floor!
Bottom line; exercise is NOT fun. How you feel, afterwards - is!!

I'll smile too if I'm geeting paid for doing something I love to do. Besides your not just selling the product but the illusion of results seen in the actors. Trust me it works!

no but if you understand advertising. You would want to show someone smiling and enjoying the product you are trying to sell. I know as a consumer that would catch my interest.

it's all part of a marketing scheme! Marketing agents are smart people! You're not going to buy or much less be interested in a product if someone looks miserable while doing it.
