do you answer it anyway if you know the answer? or do you just tell 'em to do their own work even though you might be wrong?!

Personally, I risk it and tell them to do it themselves!

I'm inclined to want to guide someone toward a correct answer, without necessarily giving it, if the question is posed in a way that convinces me the individual has actually thought about it, is completely confused, and pulling-their-hair-out downright stuck.

If they're just repeating a question, my attitude is that nobody ever helped me with homework in my entire life, and they can do their own, too.

If it is science I always give them the answer. They actually may end up learning something by writing the correct answer. Some may truly not know the answer.

You'd be amazed how much work students will go through to not do the work. Really sometimes 30 minutes of work to as opposed to 3 minutes of hunt in peck in chapter. Sigh
The stories I have.

If they do not know answers and I provide them, if they learn-great. If they retain none of it no harm. Most teachers do not/should not base grade solely on homework. 25% of grade is standard.

I generally don't give direct answers. I give them sites to look at or certain words to look up to get the answers they need. Can't spoon feed them. They will never learn. That's as far as I go. The internet is an almost give me. Ask and you shall receive internet.

Sometimes I give them the answer. It just depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Otherwise I don't even answer.

I make it appear as though I have the right answer, but give them a bogus one on purpose.

they won't learn otherwise

i always help. it either helps me remember what i need to know or it helps me learn something. sometimes people can't understand something or find it. hearing it from a different perspective helps. maybe they don't have friends or family to help? how sad is that? i don't care how people learn. i never mind helping.
