With no disrespect to those who believe in the "Next Life," (afterlife), no. My personal opinion, but to live for an afterlife would be missing so much of living, with just that one destination in mind. Nor would believing in one make me a "better" person.
Jude & Cristen H, most of us plan for our "future" tomorrows, but that in no way equates rationally with living for an afterlife.
Life after death is not "living."
Yes, this is philosophy, & I'm answering with my logic. Plato, as everyone, was entitled to his opinions.

No, I'm not. I am hopeful that there might be a life after this one, whether it is a spiritual one, or another plane of existence, but I'm not living for it. I'm living the best I can in this life because it is the right thing to do, and not because I want a reward or a better life later.

Living for the next life is to hope that things would be better tomorrow, in the future. One just lives with expectations. Something is going to happen tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next year, next life. This is nothing but postponing things.

Whatsoever can happen is happening right now and we are looking somewhere else. People always live somewhere else. Somewhere else is their abode.

I don't hope for the next life. I simply live moment to moment, and enjoy the moment, because what else can a hopeless man do!

I think everyone is living for the next life, whether they realize it or not. Whenever we save money or do any act that is based on future events, we are basing our existence on the next life. For who is to say that the future for which we are saving and planning will ever arrive? Are those not irrational acts then?

We base our present on future expectations all the time, so why is it not irrational to suppose that a future life awaits us after death, and that the actions of this life in some way portend to that future life? The father of western philosophy - Plato - thought so, and so have a great many other philosophers in both the western and eastern traditions.

Are you crazy? This one is plenty difficult enough for me. I try to save a little money back for emergencies, I have a paid up funeral plan, and I wonder who'll take care of my dog. Next life? I devoutly hope you're wrong. All I want is closure. Just being dead is fine by me. If someone taps me on the shoulder and says " Hey, get up, it's starting again." I'll be extremely surprised and melancholy about the whole deal.

I am living the present life in the best possible manner. Since everything of the future is beyond my powers or control, I never bother about them.I do not wish to invite worries in my peaceful life.

As life in my belief is on going, I am therefore living my life as I would, with the highest ideals of my understanding spiritually and applying them to my everyday existence. Be what it may, it makes me a happy camper and I will continue alone the road of eternity doing such. Perhaps skinning my knees a bunch on this particular leg of the trip....

Not on your life. This one will do me. So I focus on it, which requires all the energy of which I'm capable, mentally and physically. The rest must look after itself!
