Well my heat just got shut off (and its freeakin' freeeezing) So I know what the little "old" things really mean. I never did stop appreciating it, but, geez! I can relate when it comes gadgets like my mp3 player. I bought one and thought "life is complete!", no sooner than 2 weeks later could I be found getting completely raged when it would "freeze" at the start. It's just how life is; once you get a taste of the pie, you want a better tasting pie.

Yes. It's nice and feels good to get new things once in a while, and it's always nice to meet a new person, but it's nicer if they become a very good friend. Constant change isn't needed for happiness. New things all the time would get old and boring. I don't get many new things. Not things I would like to have anyway, it's mostly things that are needed. So, when I do get something new, it brightens my day. People need to learn to be happy with what they have. And if you take something old and fix it, paint it, etc. give it a new use, it's better than buying new because you used your imagination instead of money.

New things, people and situations aren't necessary for happiness. Look at monks! They want nothing material and they seem pretty satisfied with their lives. Nobody needs objects to be happy, unless going without would have a negative effect on their physical or mental well-being (like having a warm blanket in sub-zero weather). Also, look at big lottery winners. They're often miserable and driven to depressions...yet they have all the stuff anyone could want, and they could go anywhere and meet anyone they wanted to!

As I said in a previous question, I was brought up during the depression. At that time very few people had enough, much less too much. We grew ip with love, and were happy to have a 5 cent ball to play games with. When thats all you have you are happy with that, when you get so much more, as we have today, you don`t seem to be happy at all.

Absolutely! I'm very happy with my life. My husband and I have been married 22 years, our furniture is about that old and we spend more time together than with anyone else. Life is good!
