Try using the OFF sprays or scented candles. The fly tapes also work well, but the scene looks pretty gruesome after they get stuck.

Flies gather where they choose, not much you can do to change their mind except kill them. If it is just what they want a spray will only kill those there, a tack strip will invite your guest to be offended. You might try the trick stores use of a fan that provides just enough wind through the area to discourage gathering. The stores use an overhead fan but you might try a regular fan that would blow through the door when it is opened to discourage the flies from coming in with your visitors. It does not need to be a gale force wind.
