Hi,
OOOO! A really difficult one. The intellect and will are begotten at the same time. For one to be a servant of the other, surely the other would have to be more 'aware' in order to start 'shaping' the other. For that reason I feel the intellect and the will are compatible companions. They learn alongside each other; share the same experiences and co-operate in their journey through life.

On average, controlling the intellect (mind) is difficult when young, slightly achieved by age 30-40 and possible to be more Spirit-controlled thereafter.
Let's look at the five parts of an adult human, highest to low:
1.Personality -- the unchanging you with will
2. Spirit -- the spirit portion of God within you, subject to #1
3. soul --the spirit of God duplicates you as soul which can ascend fully after your body dies. Also your super-conscious soul mind that does not think in words, but concepts and ideals.
4. conscious mind -your intellect and reasoning powers
5. body and lowest sub-conscious mind
Thus #4 your intellect or conscious mind has #5 dragging it down and #1 and #2 and #3 all able to lift it up to think, conceive, plan better things.
The reason God's spirit fragment within is placed under the control of your personality is to make worship and Spirit wisdom optional to you. You can choose to be more Godlike or less.
Train your mind to be able to go to pure thoughts and best memories and to be God-seeking when it tries to think inferior thoughts. The pure mind can be granted to see God, even in this life. If one can not master his mind, he may freely ask for the perfect Mind of our Master Jesus Christ. He always serves us well.

By remembering that intellect is merely a tool, just one aspect of your conscious being. Do not identify with your intellect, nourish it and use it to achieve your goals but do not let it dominate you.

Reason is never morally incorrect even when it is proved to be false logic--by new reason. It is the abandonment of reason, or the denial of its power as the antithesis of faith, that is morally incorrect. The intellect that is most efficacious in the one that is of reason, even when it is "joined to faith" as Boethius claimed it should be.

Forming the Judgment. The Judgment is negative, the Will is positive. In its natural course, the Will becomes in the human as the human becomes its self, the becoming is its life.

Intellect as its own identity is my self. The Wills and Judgments confluent reciprocity is this self's complex.

Stages of Cognitive Development. Piaget identified four stages in cognitive development:
Sensorimotor stage (Infancy). In this period (which has 6 stages), intelligence is demonstrated through motor activity without the use of symbols. Knowledge of the world is limited (but developing) because its based on physical interactions / experiences. Children acquire object permanence at about 7 months of age (memory). Physical development (mobility) allows the child to begin developing new intellectual abilities. Some symbollic (language) abilities are developed at the end of this stage.
Pre-operational stage (Toddler and Early Childhood). In this period (which has two substages), intelligence is demonstrated through the use of symbols, language use matures, and memory and imagination are developed, but thinking is done in a nonlogical, nonreversable manner. Egocentric thinking predominates
Concrete operational stage (Elementary and early adolescence). In this stage (characterized by 7 types of conservation: number, length, liquid, mass, weight, area, volume), intelligence is demonstrated through logical and systematic manipulation of symbols related to concrete objects. Operational thinking develops (mental actions that are reversible). Egocentric thought diminishes.
Formal operational stage (Adolescence and adulthood). In this stage, intelligence is demonstrated through the logical use of symbols related to abstract concepts. Early in the period there is a return to egocentric thought. Only 35% of high school graduates in industrialized countries obtain formal operations; many people do not think formally during adulthood.
