I'm interested in casting/making my own coins for my micronation.

Do you have any suggestions for doing this? It can be of any material, really.

Use polymer clay from the craft store. Make 2 molds out of the clay, one for the front of the coin and one for the back. You can carve them with a pin. Bake them and let them cool. Now take a lump of the clay and press it between the 2 dies, then take it out and put it on your baking pan. Repeat until you have as many coins as you want, then bake them.

The China of old 650 BC up to around 1900 cast their coins in sand molds as well as other types. One side in the early days had a design the other did not. Clay can be used, wood can be carved out and used and lead melts at a low temperature. I bet if you put casting coins in google you may get the info you need.
