You can't. Someone really goofed here. I have re glazed many tubs but, never painted one.

I suggest you go to Home Depot, get a tub re glazing kit. If you have big chips in the tub then get a bonding kit also. Lot's of sandpaper and some, a pint can of "Zip-strip" paint remover. And, don't forget the rubber gloves and mask.

It's either this or a new tub or, hire someone to come on a re glaze the tub for you. I would guess about $200.00 with the stripping and, that's without looking at it.

I have worked in public housing for 20 tears, and many times tenants and lazy maintenance men have painted tubs because they didn't want to clean them properly. I would strip the paint with a paint stripper and then evaluate wether or not you need a new tub if the existing tub is in good shape, a good cleaning after you strip the paint off would work. However if the tub is damaged under the paint you might want to consider a product like bath fitters ( a shell that goes over your existing tub) they are reasonably priced, and we have had a lot of success with their product, and if it works in public housing it will work at your place,

Call a company that is in the business of restoring tubs. You'll save yourself alot of time, and won't have to worry about the tub peeling again.
