I am renting a house and the heater downstairs wasn't working. The guy that worked on it was like, "Oh wow, that's definitely asbestos tape". All the corners of the ducts are taped. Is it harmful, and should I move or sue the landlord? I have no idea what it means, but the word asbestos just sacares me!

PLEASE HELP!!

If it is like a thick paper, it probably does contain asbestos. As another poster said, it's not a problem unless it airborne. You don't have to freak out about it. If it bothers you, get some clear acrylic spray paint and spray it all till it's soaked. This will lock down any fibers and they can't get airborne. The only problem with that is that it makes it harder to remove later, because the usual way to take it off is soak it with water/detergent and scrape it off, then spray the surface with sealer. If it's sprayed with acrylic, the water/detergent won't soak in.

Asbestos is not dangerous unless it is airborne. The small fibers in the air pose a potential health problem. As long as the asbestos is left alone, you will be OK.

If it was "taped", it is indeed safe.

The problem and attributes of asbestos insulation, can not be handled in this question by all means.
It's still legal to use.
However, if someone did cover the fray ends of it from floating into the area, ----you're OK.

no, the tape isn't made from asbestos,
its probably a cloth tape, that has raveled,
i have worked with asbestos , its a powder that is mixed with water, to make a paste its not as dangerous as they let on,for it to be, not toxic, or flamable, wont blister the skin, its just heat resistant,
