I have sworn in band not to let a particular person get first chair, mostly for the good of my friend, who's also in my section. Also I'm determined to become a leader of a group or Clan or something in the future, and I have other vows. What do you consider to be "going too far" with ambition?

Ambition is a good thing, it keeps you going when the odds are against you. It's too what extent you are willing to go that is the real test. If you go to far, ambition turns into obsession, which yeah is a bad thing. If you have little ambition you become lazy and can never obtain your goals. You need just the right balance of ambition. Don't let it go to your head. Only you in the end can make the choice, so make it a good one.I hope I've helped.

Ambition is just fine, but it's going to far when your ambition ends up hurting others.

P.S. Although I'm no longer a musician(out of school), I have some stories about the chairs. I was third, and held it for certain reasons. My mom was second, but didn't try for 1st, cuz it was her best friend. Point being...don't do something you'll regret later.

Going too far hurts the ones you love. Unless you don't have a soul. In that case step on everyone in your way until you have reached your every goal. Then you can sit all alone on top of the mountain in your golden chair all by yourself. Alone.

Ambition is the last refuge of failure.

Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.

i think it's a good thing unless it proves to be your ultimate downfall. for instance, you have burnt all of your proverbial bridges climbing to the top, and find that once you have reached it, you are hated by everyone you knew and become so lonely that no amount of money or success can save you.

i'd think going to far would be becoming a freak with it as in if you don't get first chair that you go absolutely crazy. and if you do that you don't go rubbing it in their faces.
