older, less expensive medications?

I always love the disclaimer they use telling the patient they should rely on the advice of their physician. They are fine with that as long as it comes out of the patient's personal pocket.

To The Rabbi, good advice indeed but it is not sequitur to the denial of medically necessary medical care.

Jimmy J, I suspect you have not required a medication that cost hundreds of dollars or needed medical care that that your PPO deemed to be "investigational".

What is "unfair" profit?

How about using PAs and LPNs instead of MDs and RNs, thus reducing the quality of services while increasing profit by lowering its payroll costs?

How about refusing to allow expensive tests that could help diagnose cancer and other serious diseases sooner, thus delaying diagnosis and treatment, perhaps to fatal ends?

You people don't know a thing about the insurance industry.
Insurance companies pay out millions of dollars a day each.
Denying coverage is based on the plan the consumer chose.
If the consumer did not contract for the coverage, then they don't get it.
The insurance industry is regulated to the extreme by the State and Federal government. If it was as bad as you think, and Michael Moore says, the government would have shut it down by now.
The fact is, you people want something for nothing.

Ok here is the thing All Insurance companies are in it for well Profit and there is only one way to do that - take the rate that people pay every month and than when it comes down to paying a claim deny deny deny, that is why there is alot of people that want to get rid of these insurance companyies and have a single payer - the goverment healthcare has no place for profit
edit- I work for a insurance company, adjusters deny claims all the time for no apparent reason (other than profit) and also if we eliminated for profit healthcare and had the govenment pay for it the prices would go down tremendously, Republicans = me society Democrats = we society which dosent explain why the religious right votes to the right jesus was for helping the poor , healing the sick , etc and you neocons call us godless pst

Insurance of any type is a form of legalized racketeering. Sponsored and encouraged by the government.

You get what you pay for. I have a PPO, pay quite a bit for it, and have not had that problem.

Edit: No I haven't. However, the bottom line is that if we don't have private companies providing the service, then the government does. Personally, I don't want to pay taxes for your health care and could not care less about your health problems. I'm concerned about the health and welfare of my family and that is where it ends. I've already told my wife that I will not be kept alive by artificial means and will not get on a waiting list for any organ transplants. Since I'm willing to forego this type of expensive treatment, I sure as hell don't want to pay for yours.

Lets put the blame where it belongs - on the people. People - they are someone's friend or relative - make the decisions. Do they screw up? Like the rest of the workforce - yes. Most people don't seem to either know or care about what they are doing. I suggest for anyone who is unhappy with the way things are run to become an activist and strive to make a difference. I believe in monitoring my body and educating myself on health and nutrition. It is time everyone started taking care of what is theirs.

That is what you get with a for-profit health care system.
