Are you still listed on the title as an owner of the vehicle? If so, then no - you can not steal your own car.

first off. it's a civil matter, not a criminal one. No cop is going to take that report as a stolen vehicle. If your name was on the title, and your over 18, he can't take your name off it. If your under 16 you can't legally make a contract so it was probably in his name on the title. But he can't take your name off the loan as long. as you make the payments you're fine. Sounds like you had a falling out with Dad over something, or else you haven't been making the payments and he is having too. If the latter is the case, he may have some civil recourse against you. Sounds like both of you need to mature a little and get things worked out. Family is very important, you will both regret it if you have a falling out over something as stupid as a car.
Get your own loan and get dad off the loan asap.
Good luck.

Your father owns the car. He is the co-signer for your loan. He can repossess the car if you are not making payments on time.

If you are underage and living at home, you own nothing except personal items you purchase with your own money.

He would be making a fool out of himself for him to do that. You are the owner, he is just the co-signer.

They have laws against false police reports. He knows you have the registration in your name and may find it hard to explain how that happened. Did you ever find out if he refinanced it to take your name off the title? He's bluffing or stupid.

You need an answer from a real Lawyer and it sounds like you need it fast. I don't think I would wait around here and hope that one shows up. If you don't know one, find the phone # for legal aid in your state.

If he's the co-signer, then you are the owner and he co-signed for it?
