A good share of it doesn't, the whole theory about using atomic weapons to start the core rotating was totally wrong. They were right about the hot core causing the magnetic field of the Earth, and that field is important to our health.

1. There are parts of the earth underground that are very hot.
(not hot enough to ignite a leaky oxygen line apparently... try again)
1. The earth's magnetic field is influenced by its core.
2. The magnetic field does block dangerous radiation...
