It could be wood glue or heavy glue. I'm using this glue for a science fair project.
*It also has to be affordable and which you can buy a whole lot of it*

Thanks in advance.

I would use rubber cement. That would work without messing up the styro.

You can use a permanent "white glue" like Elmer's GlueAll, or a tacky version of white glue (Aleene's, etc.)
... or you can use the special spray glue in a can that's made *for* polystyrene foams
... or you can use a glue gun (...using the LOW-temp guns, with any gluesticks, won't be a problem, but the ones called HIGH-temp guns will make the glue too hot and will melt the foam... if that's the only type of gun you have though, just apply that really hot glue to something besides the foam, allow it to cool a second, THEN touch to the foam.

You can also use bits of glue gun glue along with a white glue --just side by side... one will hold the pieces strongly long term, and the other will hold the pieces tightly together immediately.

(rubber cement could be a problem because of solvents in it?... not sure though)

Aleene's Fast Grabbing Glue should work just fine.
It won't melt the styrofoam. You could also use
Liquid Infusion. These glues can be found in Michael's and Hobby Lobby.

There's glue formulated for styrofoam and cardboard. (I forgot the name) it's in a blue tube. You can find it in arts and crafts store or hobby stores. You may also want to try using caulk adhesive. They apply thick and they dry clear. They are also paintable.

What I have used before is available at home depot and lowes. It is called Liquid Nails for projects. I think they changed the name to Liquid Nails for Foam. It comes in a tube for use in a caulking gun. Just read the label to make sure it is the correct kind.
