You ovulate *one day.* You are fertile up to 5 days before, because that's how long sperm can live and lie in wait for that egg. Once you ovulate, the egg lives for 12 - 24 hours. So you're fertile that day, too. After the egg dies, that's it....you wait and see.

You only ovulate one time. The egg lives a maximum of 24 hours. 2 days after you ovulate there is no way you can get pregnant anymore. Your fertile phase can last up to five days- 2-3 days before ovulation, the day of ovulation, and the day after ovulation. The length of your fertile phase (prior to ovulation) depends on the quality of your cervical mucus. Sperm can live up to five days in fertile cervical mucus (however, most live three days).

If you really want to know exactly when you ovulate and when your fertile phase is over, you need to chart your waking temperature and observe you cervical mucus. Read the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. Check out the website: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/

ovulation is when the egg is released and can be fertilized. This only last 12 hours. That is why it is good to have sex before ovulations so the sperm are waiting on the egg.

when your release the egg it lives for 6-24 hours. so it is best to have sex leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation.

sperm lives for 3-5 days so the sperm will meet the egg.
