I feel so silly asking, but it's kind of fun! Most seniors have some type of a soft spot in their hearts...or I am told! I won't take a stray in, but I will feed them just to keep the peace in the neighborhood, if ya know what I mean! How about you? Do you feed strays or turn the water hose on them?

Yes Sherryn I do! I feed them dry cat food. I buy the WalMart brand of dry in the green package, they all seems to love it, so do my dogs. The walmart brand in the blue bag makes them throw up though, the green which is seafood seems more digestible for them think it is $7.97 for 20 lbs.

I don't feed strays. First off my feelings are that some of these strays are reproducing somewhere out there upsetting the local small animal population. For example, I no longer have anymore chipmunks in my area. Small birds are gone and I haven't seen any Cardinals in a long time.
In the event that a stray cat should fight a rabid animal that is going to present a problem for somebody.
So no, I will not feed stray cats. Hats off for those that feel the need to. I will not discourage you, but I can't join those that do.

The only stray we've found around here was wearing a collar. He lived about five blocks away, across an incredibly busy street with traffic going 10 to 15 miles over the speed limit. We carried him home after calling the owner.

Most vets recommend only dry food, because canned food contains fatty ingredients. My cats have thick, longish fur and are subject to hairballs, so my vet recommends Science Diet Hairball Light. Costs more, but there's less barf to clean up.

Of course, your strays wouldn't be barfing on your carpet.

I do feed stray cats. I give them some canned food in the morning and evening along with dry cat food that I leave on the carport during the day with a big pot of fresh water. I can't let them starve..

Almost afraid to answer this question because of all the nonsense that went on here in seniors over stray cats last week....but yes....feed them daily, dry food....am NOT going to stop...have had one spayed, and a local group works to get all of them fixed....would never turn a hose on them, only on the people who have dumped them.

Well, I'm not really a cat person and my dog would be furious if I let a cat into her yard! I have been known to take in the neighbors dogs if they get out of their yards though. I'll give them a bit of dry food and fresh water until their owners return home.

As an animal lover I would NEVER turn the water hose on a cat. I have two of my own, and if a stray is brave enough to enter their territory, then it is rewarded with dry cat food and a bowl of water.

I cannot stand for anything to be hungry. I feed them dry food. It's cheaper and still nutritious; and, IMO this does not necessarily lead to more litters. Certainly my solution to the overpopulation problem is not to starve them.

Yes, and I usually feed them dry food, sometimes canned for a special treat.

I don't feed the stray cats because I don't want them to hang around, depending on me for their next meal. I live in a gated community & in the rules, it states that the residents are not allowed to feed stray animals.

*zellparri.....That was cruel & I'm glad you don't live in my neighborhood.
