omg eww sickening, no. it makes people talk with a lisp and you can barely see it, and when you do see it it looks like you have a tongue disease or something and it's just not very attractive

1. No it's not a myth, there have been a few reported cases of death or paralysis by tongue piercing, where they've struck the main nerve or vein running in the middle of the tongue. This is highly unlikely however - just make sure you go to a respectable piercing salon. 2. Worst that could happen ? It gets infected and you take it out . . . 3. I love them, they're a great starting point of conversation and are thought to be quite sexy by the majority of young people. I've had mine done about a year now, and it's my favourite out of 9 piercings :) 4. I think they make girls look a bit tacky if they have big showy tacky jewellery and they just stick it out at every chance they get, but I think they can just look interesting or cool. They only become slutty if you BEHAVE slutty with it ! 5. No, on the contrary...the men i've been with all find them really sexy. My boyfriend loves it ! 6. I think anything under 16 isn't advisable. Plus it's illegal ! 7. Advantage . . . looks great, gets people talking, can be accessorised, it's more interesting than a boring ear piercing, makes you look tougher than you are lol (people think tongue piercings are hardcore). Disadvantages . . . you can't really eat or talk for the first couple of days, and very rarely you can bite the bar when you're eating which hurts ! Good luck :) GO FOR IT !

I would advise you not to get a tongue piercing for 5 reasons:
1) You can easily break your teeth by flicking it (possibly costing you $100's of dollars per tooth - my friend just got hers fixed)
2) The metal corrodes the back of your teeth (leaving indentations where the ball is)
3) The ball also damages the gingiva (gum tissue)
4) It looks unprofessional
5) This is the most important reason you should be cautious before getting a piercing. If the ring goes in the wrong way, it can become infected. If infected, the bacteria from the infection can spread throughout your upper body cavity (lungs especially and possibly the heart and brain).

Check my source, hope this helps.

I had my tongue pierced when I was a senior in high school. Imagine a toothpick getting shoved through your tongue and staying there. Your tongue will swell to about 3 times it's normal size and you will talk with a lisp.
I liked mine for about 2 months. Your tongue will have a funny color no matter how much you clean it and it will start to chip your teeth.
When you're eating you will bite down on the ball from time to time and it will pull at your tongue... this can cause tearing.
I wanted it done cause it was a fad at the time but it wasn't worth the money... and girls that do it, i believe, are skanky.

I loved mine, i miss it so very much :(
When I first got it I was a bit moody because eating was hard, but that only lasted a day or so and I had a year (almost) of twizzling joy! I was especially good when bored, or when I had the urge to bite my nails. OH! And I had loads of bars, there are some beauties out there - flowers, dice, pills, glowing, UV. Ahhh......
Oh, but I used to swallow a hell of a lot of bars and balls. Or just untwizzle the balls and have to stand around putting it back in, which is why I got rid of it, my tummy had enough rattling around in it.
Some boys hated it. Some liked it . But most were indifferent and couldn't really tell I had one. My dentist disproved, but I mainly wore plastics and he said that wasn't damaging. They make good friends and are fast healers. I don't have any other piercings so I don't know what kind of pain rating it's on.
My god I've written a lot...

No, my fiance wants one because all of her siblings have a tongue piercing and I think they look OK for some people, but the amount of pain involved in getting it done then living on liquids for a week afterward is too much aftercare to bother with.

Well...first of all why are you getting it? If its to impress someone because of the reputation that comes with tongue piercings then no, if its because you like them and you actually want one then go for it. They dont hurt, well maybe just a little, like if someone pinched you. The only part that sucks is that you can only eat ice cream for like 3 days, well i guess that depends on your perspective

While I recognize some of the merits for your partner, it really is not an attractive piercing. It impedes your speech not to mention food and bacteria that can get trapped in the divot. Yuck.

Haf you eveh listhened to a perthon who hath theh tongue pierthed?

The only way I would say "yes" is if you are so homely looking that you want to take attention away from your other features (eyes, nose, cheekbones, hair color, hairstyle) and have everyone stare at your tongue instead.

I don't like tongue piercings, there is sometimes a bit of a metallic taste in the peron's mouth.

it's cruel to men when women pierce their tongue.. it's like saying "look at me! I'm kinky! I give great BJs!"

when men see that, it's the equivalent of holding delicious food in front of a starving person but pulling it away when he reaches for it..
