The Four Violin Concertos known as The Four Seasons were written by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) in around 1724-25. It is the only piece I know entitled 'The FOUR Seasons'. Composers who have written works simply called 'The Seasons' include Glazunov (a ballet), Haydn (an oratorio) and Tchaikovsky (a series of 12 piano pieces depicting the months of the year).

Vivaldi's four concertos are among the hundreds of violin concertos he wrote. The Four Seasons has become seriously overplayed now and it is a shame most people don't bother to explore Vivaldi beyond these four concertos.

Vivaldi composed the violin suite known as the "Four Seasons. Tchaikovsky also wrote a piano suite called "The Seasons", as did Glazunov. Vivaldis is by far the best known.
