I always wanted to know about cars, and join in on the conversations my guy friends have about them, but i don't know where to start! or what to look up or anything lol.
Does anyone know of any good websites, books or just plain facts that could help me? thanks =]]

The way I learned the most about cars was by doing my own repairs. Go to your local auto parts store and get a Chilton or Haynes manual for your car...and study, study, study.

Your guy friends may or may not know cars...LOL

I've met a lot of guys that couldn't really explain how a turbo charger works...but they talked a good game ..when talking about classic cars...or the COOLEST car....these are like armchair quarterbacks, that read a few issues of Car and Driver or similar magazine and are experts all of a sudden.

Another easy way to learn about cars is to pester your mechanic with questions, whenever you have any work done...you can be reasonably assured they at least know how to work on them...at least in most cases..:)

First listen in for awhile. Then open up the hood on your own car and try to figure out what they were saying by finding the different parts. Eventually you will recognize what they are talking about and will be able to imput a little. Just don't start taking anything apart or adjusting something without knowing exactly what you are doing.

Check with your local community college, if you have one. Most have classes on auto maintenance. Always good to know even if you don't actually want to do the repairs yourself. When someone tells you some particular item is causing the problem, you just have to take their word for it if you know absolutely nothing about it. It's nice to hear young people who want to learn about how a car works rather than just how to fill the tank and drive until it dies. Good luck.

A short college coarse will help you better than any web site, hands on experience is a far better learning tool and cheap. Good Luck and God Bless
