I've noticed that ESPN will show Football, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Football, Golf, Football, Horse-Racing, Football, and ugh...Football. But almost no Hockey! I say almost, because after the Sox won the series they had a "Best day for Boston" segment and showed a Bruins highlight of them defeating the Rags 1-0 in the Shootout. Other than that, nothing!

Yes- I know exactly what you mean! Hockey is the most exciting sport and not only does it have the most action (sorry football) but it also has the classiest players in sports. Perhaps since there isn't nearly as much off the ice drama that other sports have, it doesn't get talked about as much. The lockout year really hurt though.
I get so mad at ESPN never showing highlights, unless you want to see Crosby. Last week, the wings played a great game in Calgary and were there highlights on Sportscenter- NO! But then what can you expect when you are watching a show where the main hockey guru is Wing hater Barry Melrose- ugh!

They do show some highlights, however it's usually when they have to fill up some time so they put some stupid clip in. It's amazing to me that ESPN can show EVERY SINGLE hit made during a baseball game nobody cares about, but unless you're in a fight or your name is Sidney Crosby, you won't make the cut to be aired as a highlight. I get that they're trying to show case the best players and get people's attention but how about showing some plays that really matter, even if they're not by Sid. We know there are fights in hockey, so it's not the only thing they should show to recap a game, there's soooo much more to it.

Although i was very happy that Jonny Toews' goal got chosen as the top play for that top 10 countdown thing they do a couple weeks ago. At least they tried to show some real talent. :)

Well, ESPN does rarely cover hockey stories. Barry Melrose does his little bits on the previous nights games. But that part of the show comes MUCH SOONER than the stories about football, basketball, baseball, golf, etc. It almost seems like they have to completely run out of other sports stories before they do their segment on hockey.

It seems like hockey is dying in this country. Hardly ever see more than 30 secs of it on TV. Just got the new SI issue and the only mentions of hockey that I saw in the entire issue was their little pop culture quiz, the Rangers sucking in their hot or not thing and a paragraph about the Wild/Flames game coming up. It would be interesting if someone who has entirely too much time on their hands would study the percentages of media coverage. How the hell does horse-racing beat hockey, shouldn't ever happen, I don't care if it's the damn Kentucky Derby.

Might be time to move to Canada, at least I have FSN Detroit now which still cares about the Wings.

No, the Question is y did ESPN Quit Broadcasting NHL Games?

the reason they put football and baseball highlights is because they are american sports!

I'm glad you shined the light on the oversaturation of a boring sport.
the NFL created "monday night football". They are trying to create "sunday night football" in the U.S.
Canada has "hockey night".
when the NHL idiots wake up and try to create a day for broadcasting a weekly game, the winds of change will be upon us.

because of the lockout ESPN dropped NHL and now NHL only shows on select channels. apparently the NHL wanted more than ESPN was willing ot pay so they only occasionally talk about it. watch vs if you get it cuz they have hockey now. also there is supposed to be a NHL network coming out soon.

ESPN sucks. The NHL is non existant in their minds. That is why they do not show highlights.

I watch ESPN daily, and they have hockey highlights daily. They show almost every goal and almost every fight.. There are local Canadian TV stations (CITY-TV in Toronto) that show next to none! IF you want more indepth coverage, I find the Fox Sports Networks do a great job.

If you want everything...............you need to move to Canada
