My daughter is 4 months. I started her on solids today. She is getting carrots right now. It seems to be a little to smooth or runny for her. Could I just add rice cereal to it to make it a little thicker?

lady bug- She has been on rice cereal since she was a few weeks old due to reflux. She has never had a problem with it.

My grandson is 6 1/2 months old. He has been on solids not quite 4 weeks. He likes his food thick, so we add rice cereal to most of the baby food he eats. Many things, like the carrots, green beans, and pears are a little too runny for his liking. It is perfectly fine to add the rice cereal to make it thicker, just make sure it isn't too thick that she gags/chokes. If we mix it up and he seems to gag a bit, we just add a bit of pumped breast milk to smooth it a little, but formula or water would work, too.

Typically, you are going to only want to try one new food at a time... at least for a few days to be sure there are no allergies. If you give her more than one food and she has a reaction, you might not know which one caused it. I am sure the carrots are just fine as is. I am surprised you didn't start her on rice cereal first... once you do and she is fine with that, you could introduce a fruit. Then, if you wanted, you could add a little fruit to her cereal to see if she likes that. One step at a time...

yes, you could just sprinkly in a little rice cereal to the carrots. or you could make up some rice cereal and then add a little carrots to it, that way the carrots will last you longer, prob. 2-3 feedings since she is still new at eating and rice cereal is cheaper than buying baby food jars :)

You could, but either way is fine. She doesn't care if it's runny. You might, though, because it's messier. And adding cereal would make it more filling. Nothin' better than a happy baby with a full tummy.

My little sis preferred fruit in her cereal because it gave it some texture. Maybe the carrots are too creamy and she wants some texture, too.
