It has been a month and half now, since I have given' up drinking and alcohole for good. Mind you I still smoke cigarettes, but thats next on the list.

Does alcohole have long lasting affects, long-term depression that can still stick around after someone quits?

Why do I still feel stressed and depressed?...somewhat more depressed now, than then?

Stony,
Alcohol stays in the body for 30 days, and the brain for 90 days. I don't believe it should still be having a physical effect at this point, though you may be missing the euphoria it gave you (or you thought it gave you.) Ask a doctor is this could be the cause. Many people discover that the reason they were drawn to drinking was to cover up something else that was wrong.

If this is not your case, have the doctor check out what other causes there may be. You already know if there is an emotional component to your depression. That can be well served by visiting a counselor, if needed. You should have a good idea of what's happening fairly soon. My ear is always open if want, too.

Medically alcohol has been proven to be a depressant, for how long I do not know. You need to see your primary care Physician, there are medications that can help, some people have depression because of a chemical imbalance in their brain, you should get checked out and be honest with your Dr.

Its called withdraw. Your body is still trying to get rid of the poisons. (alcohol) Stay strong and don't give into the drink. It might last for another few more weeks to maybe months. it just takes time.
