In one of my short stories, I don't have a plot. I mean, I have somewhat of a plot, but it's more looking at the characters and their everyday lives. I mean, their everyday lives are entertaining to the reader, and it has a subtle theme behind it, but I'm not sure if I actually need a plot or not.

The story centers around 2 characters and their view of the world, and other people's view of them. It's very interesting, but there's not really a "plot."

Every story needs some kind of plot or theme for the reader to latch onto and follow.
It just isn't going to entice anyone to read something that doesn't have some kind of expected finish to it.
I don't know if the belief it is very interesting is solely your opinion or if anyone else has read it and been totally candid with you.

Um, I think for it to be classified as literature it needs to have a plot, becuase in school we went over literature (including short stories) and it needs a plot. But you shouldn't worry, it does sound intersting, and i think that seeing someone's everyday life is enough of a plot!

If there is no plot, then what you have may be an essay, or a poem, or some sort of mark-twainish rambling history lesson, but it is not a story.
A story must have a plot.

A plot or central storyline is definitely something every story needs, otherwise it is just random thoughts being expressed.

Look at some of the families old black & white photos of ancestors or people you have never met and it is almost certain that you will think of a short story that goes with them. Good luck.

That's called a plot. Could be pathetic... but it's still a plot.

Most people would say yes but i would say no. If you ever watched Seinfeld it's a successful show about absolutely nothing. Just smart observations.
