Something going on in Hollywood? What does it mean?

It means that you will most likely see an onslaught of reality TV and reruns, old movies, etc. Late night TV will be stale... it will not be good. I say give them the freakin 4 cents per DVD sale!!!!!!!!!! Give me a break!!!!!!!

The studios, etc. have been preparing for thing so it may be a few months before you really notice anything except in shows where the turnover in material is daily or weekly like late night tv, your morning shows, etc. Anything that relies on current events. They could get scab writers (hopefully they won't) or adlib their material... not sure what they did last time. The big guys are greedy and need to share the wealth. Without the writer's no one would have anything to say. That goes for your everyday news people to the glamorous movie stars. No writers, no material.

The primetime shows started shooting earlier than normal so they have more episodes in the can than they normally do by this point. Movies were fast tracked so they have more ready for release. It will take you longer to notice it in certain markets, but you will notice and so will any businesses that depend on the writers. Local lunch and dinner establishments will notice. Their assistants will be out of work and they'll certainly notice that. Their agents will notice. Anyone who depends on them for material will notice. Personally I think it's ridiculous that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers won't pony up to keep them working.

my two cents,
Marianne

I fear Marianne is right, and what's even worse is that all the fat-cat producers who think the 4 cent increase is outrageous, actually WANT the strike to happen. They're thinking of the money that will be saved by replacing scripted dramas with MORE reality shows, which have no big name stars, don't require scripts (for the most part) and are dirt-cheap to produce. So should this strike go on longer than the last extended walkout, you will see a jump in the number of reality shows on the four networks. I sincerely hope that there's a huge drop in viewership as well, if that happens.
