Without these men and women who were willing to die for freedom from England for the United States - This country would more closely resemble India (just an example, folks).
You get to makes many choices you otherwise would not be able to because they fought and died - and every military man/woman since has done the same.
Think Iraq, North Korea v. U.S.A. Look what all the English colonies went through - they're still suffering the consequences of British rule - see Africa. The French practically destroyed an entire generation trying to hang on to Cambodia, etc. in Southeast Asia.
When the Colonial Powers bugged out after World War II, entire continents were thrown into chaos resulting in millions of deaths.
You are also a patriot if you take a bus to work or carpool, buy only that which is made in the U.S. even when it costs more - just not on the grand scale of our forebears who literally gave their lives for our freedom - and are still doing it today.

Patriots are always important. They pledge their allegiance to a country and stand firm in their beliefs. Great men are your defenders of freedom and true patriots. It does not bother them to lay down their lives for their cause for their country. Land and country is most important to them.
